Guest guest
Definitely, I think it's a good idea to discuss this with Amma or the swamis if possible...but if people are asking Amma for a new mantra directly when they go for darshan, doesn't She know? Why would the mantra people have to ask Her again? If you ask during Devi Bhava and get waved over to the mantra talk people, they most likely will then have to go to Amma and ask Her. Another possibility is to talk to one of the swamis ahead of time. Then do as they say.
Guest guest
Beloved Sister, When Amma gives a mantra it is for life. She imparts some of Her divine energy into that mantra, which will take the devotee all the way to God. This is not something to be cast away lightly. (And I emphatically DON'T think Snehalata is doing that.) The mantra people are very mindful of this. The reason Amma has "mantra people" is to sort out the fine points of getting a mantra. Many people ask for a mantra from Amma, but then in the discussion before getting their mantra, they may decide it's not really for them, or it may be that they already have another guru, etc. Amma has said "yes" to all these people when they ask Her for a mantra. So Her saying "yes" doesn't necessarily mean that person will get a mantra. If a year after getting one mantra, the devotee wants a different one, that would have to be okayed by Amma in a more specific way than just the brief darshan question. This is why I think the mantra people would have to ask. I could be wrong, of course. As you know, things around Amma change constantly. What was true five minutes ago may not be true now. I myself went to Amma a year after getting my mantra and asked if I had gotten the "wrong" mantra! (I'm embarrassed about this now.) Amma didn't answer the question, but sat impassively and ignored me. At the same time I could feel something happening in my heart. Now, years later, I have learned that the mantra that I have IS the mantra I wanted. Because it was Sanskrit I didn't understand that the bija was to Amma Herself, which was what I really wanted. I thought because it didn't have Her name in it, it wasn't to Her, as I had asked for something else. So, dear Snehalata, you never know. Those are just my thoughts, and I humbly apologize if I have given offence to any here. Om Amriteshvariyea Namah, CJ Definitely, I think it's a good idea to discuss this with Amma or the swamis if possible...but if people are asking Amma for a new mantra directly when they go for darshan, doesn't She know? Guest guest
I asked for a new mantra several years ago (my chosen deity changed, or more accurately, I wanted to strengthen my relationship with a second deity). I was told that Amma gives only one mantra to each devotee, and it has to last for life. No exceptions. Admittedly, one of the brahmacharyins advised me that all "deities" are forms of Brahman, and when addressing one, we are addressing them all. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sat, 3 Apr 2004 20:51:19 -0800 (PST) charjohn <ammakutty1 writes: > > I have worked with the people getting mantras, and forsomething as > serious as taking a new mantra, I'd advise getting in the question > line beforehand to ask. Guest guest
It's funny that you say this, because I and many others with whom I've spoken have had similar (initial) doubts about whether or not we were given the "right" mantras! I think it's usually a case of our mind having a misguided idea of what it "should" be, or what the experience of chanting it "should" be like, or the rewards it "should" bring. Personally, it took several years before my mantra "sunk in." I had even contemplated asking for a different (Amma) one, but, after praying to Amma for some clarity while sitting on the darshan line, I got the clear sense that I already had the mantra for me! Guest guest
That's not necessarily true. I know a number of devotees who, with the deepening of their relationship with Amma, asked for a switch to an Amma mantra, and Amma agreed. All any of us can say in this situation is...Amma knows best! =) Iswari Ammachi, kalipadma@j... wrote: > > I asked for a new mantra several years ago (my chosen deity changed, or > more accurately, I wanted to strengthen my relationship with a second > deity). Guest guest
I remember the story of a man who asked Amma to initiate him with a Hebrew mantra he'd been using for some time -- and she did! Guest guest
I remember hearing that story as well. I also know that there was a girl in the mantra line ahead of me when I was getting my mantra who asked Amma to bless a mantra she'd been previously given. Amma did so, but the people around Her were confused at first. Guest guest
Om Amriteshvariyea Namah. Amma will (once a lifetime) bless a mantra one is already using.
