The evening programme began with a soulful rendering of bhajans. People representing various communities, cultures and countries joined in the chants. Clapping and smiling and joining the chorus was Amma. Speaking to TNN, on the sidelines of the event, Ashok Sargar, a follower and senior volunteer, said, "One cannot describe the joy of listening to her discourses. It is something to be cherished for a lifetime." Sheetal Mule, another devout follower, claimed a meeting with Amma, 10 years ago, cured her of asthma. Known as much for her quick repartee, as for her compassion, Amma on Sunday prayed for, spiritual enlightenment of all those caught up in fast-paced lifestyles. "Love expressed through words and deeds is compassion. Hence when a person is full of love and compassion, he or she cannot be biased. He/she simply forgives and forgets. Compassion is love expressed in fullness," she said. The Mata Amritanandamayi Devi Math has been involved in several welfare projects, such as monthly pensions to destitute women and free medical treatment and rehabilitation for slum dwellers at Ajanta Nagar, Chinchwad. As a token of its appreciation, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) presented a plaque of honour to Amma on Sunday. She will have two more interfaces with her followers at her Math at Yamunanagar, Nigdi on March 1 ( 6.30 pm ) and March 2 ( 12 noon ).
