Use of intellect, love is essential for joy: Mata

HYDERABAD: Mata Amritanandamayi, who concluded her

three-day visit to the twin cities on Friday, said God

has given two gifts - discretion and love and by using

them one can find the almighty.

 

Delivering a discourse at the annual Brahmastanam

temple festival here, Mata said though the people have

both, they never use them correctly. ‘‘Discretion is

the language of intellect and love is the language of

the heart. To gain peace and joy in life, we need both

but we should learn to apply them correctly in each

situation,’’ she said.

 

If human beings perform all their actions with

discretion, they need not say sorry and never feel

sorry for themselves. The human beings do not do any

bad karma as their words and actions would not harm

others.

 

‘‘Unless we know what action to perform and when, all

our efforts will go waste,’’ she said. The human

beings some times give too much importance to the

intellect and neglect the heart totally which affects

the peace and harmony. ‘‘When white sand and sugar

gets mixed, the so called intelligent human beings

cannot separate them whereas a tiny ant can do so by

eating only sugar,’’ she said.

 

Mata said the intellect was like a pair of scissors

which cuts everything into pieces while heart is like

a needle that sews pieces together. ‘‘Both the

faculties need to be used and we need to have the

understanding of when to use which faculty,’’ she

said.

 

Lamenting over loss in life, the people tend to forget

the greatest gain of all that we need to attain in

this birth - that is love. ‘‘Life is wasted if love is

not nurtured and shared with fellow human beings,’’

she said.

 

More than 80,000 devotees attended the three-day

programme.
