Guest guest Posted February 19, 2004 Report Share Posted February 19, 2004 Mangalore, and on to Bangalore this weekend -- from the Deccan Herald http://www.deccanherald.com/deccanherald/feb192004/d4.asp Amma extends Kuteera Scheme for M’lore MANGALORE, DHNS: Matha Amrithanandamayi Math, Amritapuri, extended the Amritha Kuteera programme of providing free houses to the needy to Mangalore on Tuesday by providing 76 houses at Mulki. Selected beneficiaries of the scheme were given models of the houses by District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai at the Amritha Sangama- 2004 in the divine presence of the Amma as the Matha is endearingly addressed toby her devotees. The programme was being implemented in Mysore, Bangalore and Dharwad in Karnataka and the scheme has been extended to Mangalore now. Governor T N Chaturvedi gave away the Amrith pensions to needy widows on the occasion and the beneficiaries of the two schemes receiving the blessings of Amma as they offered their respects to her. The math has provided about 30,000 houses under the programme and inspired by the response and success of the programme Amma has vowed to provide one lakh houses to the needy during the next ten years. Mangalore Mayor Diwakar released a souvenir on the occasion. Dr B M Hegde, former vice-chancellor, MAHE, spoke about Amma and her message of love and service before the commencement of the function.
