Guest guest
OM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAH Blessed Ones, I ASKED GOD I asked God for Strength... And He gave me difficulties to make me strong. I asked God for Wisdom... And He gave me problems to solve. I asked God for Prosperity... And He gave me brain and brawn to work. I asked God for Courage... And He gave me danger to overcome. I asked God for Love... And He gave me troubled people to help. I asked God for Favors... And He gave me opportunities. I received nothing I wanted... And I received everything I needed. :: Chandran
Guest guest
Chembalacnair and Fortunate Gopis: Thank you for this poignant verse. Speaking personally (is there any other way well I guess universally - just kidding) the poem is difficult to swallow. But like medicine it is for my higher good. Could you tell us a little about the author? I would like to find more items from him or her. Guest guest
Hi, I don't know about the author of this particular version, but the poem that it seems modelled after was supposedly found in the pocket of a dead Confederate soldier during the Civil War. Here is that poem, which is somehow more poignant to me: I asked God for strength, that I might achieve, I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey; I asked for health, that I might do greater things, I was given infirmity, that I might do better things; I asked for riches, that I might be happy, I was given poverty, that I might be wise; I asked for power, that I might have the praise of man, I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God; I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life, I was given life, that I might enjoy things; I got nothing that I asked for - but everything I had hoped for, Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered, I am among all men, most richly blessed. Guest guest
OM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAH I ASKED GOD The author is unknown to me. The message was received from one of my friends quite some time back. On meditating this message I'm able to reduce the desires to certain level and gather more mental strength to take all situations as Amma's (God's) wish; this will also help one to be at present. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, This poem reminds me of the Wizard of Oz - the characters all wanted for things that they already possessed within them, mostly because of life experience as the poem suggests - even Dorothy who was told that home was in her heart and she only needed to want it badly enough. Universal Truths.... Anumati George4Mata <leokomor wrote: Speaking personally (is there any other way well I guess universally - just kidding) the poem is difficult to swallow. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Thank you for the Oz reference. Your analysis is thought provoking. The Net provided this excerpt between the Cowardly Lion and the Wizard: "But what about my courage?" asked the Lion, anxiously. "You have plenty of courage, I am sure," answered Oz. "All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. True courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty.Perhaps I have, but I’m scared just the same," said the Lion. "I shall really be very unhappy unless you give me the sort of courage that makes one forget he is afraid." If we take God to be the Wizard here is it okay to ask God for courage? This child votes yes. God give me strength. You are strength will you not give your reflection what you possess? On the other hand it is equally okay for the Guru to drop you from the sky and rescue you at the last second. It appears that Both are necessary concurrently. In the Gita, Sri Krishna did not do the fighting for Arjuna. Arjuna had the courage hidden within, but was having a coward-like nervous breakdown. Nevertheless Sri Krishna was the navigational emboldener. Anumati wrote: “The characters all wanted for things that they already possessed within them” No disagreement Anumati. At the same time it is felt that we need to take ownership of our "cowardice" and turn to the Guru for remedial counter-action.
