Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya! PLP is a grassroots project (all volunteer run) that ships donated books into prisons across the USA*. The inmates have heard of the program word of mouth, and oftentimes comment on the inaccessibility of literature in the jails. Lots of idle time, lots of hungry minds and hearts. Santa Rita for instance, requires that books are new and shipped directly from the distributor. This red tape is a bit of a economic jab which prevents many inmates from receiving books from family or friends. PLP gets around this and follows the tedious rules of each jail so that material can be shipped in. Some inmates are in "the hole" (isolated from the rest of the inmates) and are in need of some life affirming attention. We send mind-spirit-body books. Dictionaries are in high demand, but just about everything (except martial arts...) is useful. Amarthya-does that answer your question? Please explain what you mean by a "loan circuit". If anyone is interested in donating their books, they can be dropped off or shipped to: Grassroots House Prison Literature Project 2022 Blake Street Berkeley CA, 94704 ATTN: Mariam You are also welcome to drop them off in person or come down to volunteer for the evening. Hours of operation: Sunday 5-7:30, Tues & Wed 7:00-9:30. People show up during these three slots as often or as infrequent as they so desire. We read the letters of the prisoners, and find an appropriate match to their request. It is a very uplifting project. If any one has questions, please feel free to write me directly at omshivashakti108 Jai Ma!!! Rohini *Texas excluded. PLP receives 800 letters a month, and when serving Texas this number doubled. A sister project in Texas was launched to handle the overwhelming volume of book requests.
