Guest guest
Hi Brianna, I don't understand this either. Does not Amma say "We may think that the sea and its waves are different, but both are water. We may imagine that the necklace, bangle, ring and anklet are different. But all of them are essentially gold....Therefore, even though the things around us may seem different, they are one in principle-- Brahman....Sarvam brahmamayam (everything is pervaded by Brahman"). (Matruvani, Feb. '04, p. 6, 7.) Did God not make the day, the night, and the juncture of the two? Are not all sacred? Are not all pervaded by Brahman? Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya, I think that to a satguru, or any Realized Soul, the negative influences that are around during dusk may be obsolete. However, to the rest of us, it's a time during which our minds can be polluted. Because most of us are still living under the influence of Maya, we don't see Brahman in everything yet, including in the period between day and night. We imagine the sea and the waves are different, but that's exactly it: We still see it that way. We imagine the bangles and earrings are different, and that's why we wear earrings in our ear and not around our wrist. The same goes for this period after sunset (and just before sunrise): We imagine it's different, to our human minds it Is different, so we are open to the negative influences around. Our Mother knows this and advises that we meditate at sunrise and sing bhajans at sunset to ward off these negative energies. Om Namah Shivaya, Anumati Did God not make the day, the night, and the juncture of the two? Are not all sacred? Are not all pervaded by Brahman? Guest guest
Well, for me personally the only thing that works is "sarvam Brahmamayam." Otherwise I feel I would be descending into superstition. Twilight has always been one of my favorite times of day, and to start seeing it as "polluted" is to poison the joy I have always taken in it. Since I worship a God of Joy, lessening my joy in anything doesn't fit with my sadhana. "...and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good." Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya, I think that's fine, but I don't agree that it is superstitious. Amma has told us this is the way things are. What is "sarvam Brahmamayam"? Anumati "E. Lamb" <jyotsna2 wrote: Well, for me personally the only thing that works is "sarvam Brahmamayam." Guest guest
ONS, I want to be very clear that I did not say the belief is superstitious, only that if I were to embrace such a belief, it would feel that way to me. The meaning of "Sarvam Brahmamayam" was in my earlier post. "Everything is pervaded by Brahman." Love that God! Guest guest
Ellen-ji, I think amma said the juncture of day and night (and not night and day) to mean evening, not during the morning. The juncture of night and day(in the morning) is known to be a very sacred time and very powerful for sadhana. The dusk is also immensly beneficial to Sadhana- the two hours after dusk are called Pradosham and it is very auspicious for praying to Lord Siva. For most people "sandhya" happens at dusk and dawn because this is the time when the breath becomes equalized in both the nostrils; whenever this happens, it is the best time to meditate. For more experienced meditators "sandhya" is whenever the breath becomes equalized and the times of sunrise and sunset can be ignored. I have heard that during dusk some negative entities gain a lot of power; and we should pray to counter them. I really dont know if this is true or not, but Amma says so, there must be some substance to it. -yogaman Ammachi, "E. Guest guest
Jyotsna ma, I too love the dusk. I think the whole thing about times of the day can relate metaphorically to most people's phychological & physiological reactions to times of the day. Many people get depressed at dusk, whereas many people feel invigorated at dawn - not me I'm just dang sleepy then! Then again, maybe if you're a Kali devotee.. you love it DARK! And if you're a Sarasvati person you may love the sunshine. Ammachi, "E. Lamb" <jyotsna2> wrote: > > Well, for me personally the only thing that works > is "sarvam Brahmamayam." Guest guest
Yogamanji, Of course it's right that negative entities gain power at this time.. in the day, mostly people are going to work & school.. it's 9:00pm on south beach here and the downstairs neighbors are drunk and fighting already, next door is wafting pot smoke, the hookers are out in force on Collins Ave. Tourists and local players are prowling the hotels and night clubs, car thiefs are roving. These were quiet all day. Who is cruising or getting wasted at 1:00pm? Night for all Her beauty is a cover that day is not. The beach is crowded all day, but the beach at night is regarded as a good place to get stabbed or raped. Sorry if this was too negative. I can attest to this: I teach a yoga class twice a week at 5:45 am, and it is so nice! Everyone's mind seems a little bit more clearer, and as we meditate at the end of class I can really feel the loving energy the students have cultivated during their practice. The whole room just feels so peaceful. The best part is, the sun always rises at some point during the class (the time changes w/ the season, obviously), and the sunrise fills the east window, flooding the room with the most beautiful light. It really is a special time, and worth going to bed early for! love to all, Brianna Finance: Get your refund fast by filing online. http://taxes./filing.html

The first rays of the sun, when the sun is reddish-orange are wonderfully healing and energizing. Particularly doing Surya-namaskaram facing the sun at this time will notch your energy level and the energy boost will linger on throughout the day. Amarthya: my prayers are with you and hope to see you back soon. -yogaman > It really is a special time, and worth going to bed > early for! > > love to all, > Brianna > > > > Finance: Get your refund fast by filing online. > http://taxes./filing.html
