Om Namah Shivaya,

Maybe some of you can tell me what happened.

I went to visit a friend. She mentioned she had a photo of Amma in Kali Bhava

she wanted me to see. I'd never been to her house before and have never seen

her altar. When I got there, I went to the altar where there were easily 15

photos of Amma at various ages in Her current incarnation.

Immediately, my eyes were drawn to one photo, very dark and not very well

reproduced. I said softly, "Oh my God," and my hand went up to my mouth as I

sank to my knees and tears came out of my eyes. I went down on my knees because

I felt instantly submissive. My friend smiled softly and said, "That's the

picture."

It took about five minutes for the feeling to go away. Does anyone know what

happened? Was it Amma's shakti I felt? Was it my own emotions when I saw the

photo? I haven't felt the same since it happened.

Anumatiji,

Your story moved me very much! I am so curious which

picture of Amma in Kali Bhava it was!

I have had similar experiences looking at certain

photos of Her, and also hearing Her sing. A certain

member of this list sent me some bhajan CDs when I was

very poor, and upon hearing Mother's voice calling the

name of Divine Mother in the song "Sun Le Pukar" on

the 1996 World Tour cd (I'm making a recommendation

here, hint, hint) I felt such intense longing and deep

devotion that I also fell to my knees, in tears.

I find it so interesting and powerful that you used

the word "submissive" in your description. I too have

felt that same thing, I think it is ourselves

beginning to surrender.

I believe that Amma is working to bring Her disciples

closer to Her all the time, but sometimes, when the

timing is right, it seems that She reaches out across

time and space and really gives us a wake-up call. I

have no doubt that the whole incedent was Her work,

from your friend mentioning the picture, to the gift

of love and surrender you recieved upon seeing it.

"Mother is very desirous to see Her children crying to

God. That is how you can make Mother happy." -Amma

My advice is to cherish that memory, and accept it as

a gift from Ma Kali Herself! May Her great sword sever

all our vasanas and clear the way for the happy

reunion with our Beloved.

Jai Ma!!!

Is this the young picture of Amma swirling around dancing in purple and blue,

orange with green garland with strange objects (I cant make out) in her hands?

Dear Anumati,

Just curious... Is that the photo in which Amma has on, some failry

large nose-rings?

I saw one such photo at Bala's place (when he used to live in

Atlanta), and the first thought that came to my mind was 'Man! she

looks stoned!'. I then realized that the photo was taken when she

was in an intensely absorptive state - deep samadhi, if you will.

Anyway, I think what happened was that you connected to Amma's

Shakti coming from the photo that you were looking at; the energy

must have hit you deeply. Hence the unusual (but definitely

desirable!) reaction.

In my own experience, the 'exciting' feeling subsides after a time,

but does not disappear. It manages to get internalized.

Jai Ma!

Om Namah Shivaya,

I don't even remember! I only vaguely remember the details of the photo.

"the photo was taken when she was in an intensely absorptive state - deep

samadhi"

Yes, this is a similar photo, if not the same one. The look on Her face is

definitely one of someone who is not here but There.

"Anyway, I think what happened was that you connected to Amma's Shakti coming

from the photo"

That's what I am inclined to think, but I don't want to "think"! It was a

feeling I've never experienced before, and though my eyes teared up, I wasn't

crying at all. The feeling was just so intense it sort of made me weak in the

knees and made water come out my eyes. I sank down because for some reason, I

couldn't bear the thought of being above the photo, which was placed at

shoulder-heighth. Hence my use of the term "submissive" before - I needed to

submit to something coming from that photo! I have lots of pictures of Amma in

my home, but none make me feel that way.

Om Namah Shivaya,

Like I said in the last post to Manoj, I'm not sure which photo it was, but WOW!

:) And yes, I've also been brought to my knees in prostration at the sound of

Mother's voice coming from my speakers. I wrote about it once, while washing

dishes I suddenly found I had turned off the water and was kneeling to the

speaker as Amma cried out "Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma", which gets me EVERY time!

Anumati devi, can you go view the photo at a leter date and tell us

if you have the same or similar unusual experience?

Brianna devi, does the same bhajan strike you again & again, or has

it "normailized" and you find the same phenAMMAnon in new songs?

Is it the photo/bhajan or the time/place that creates the phenAMMAnon

for the devoted?

Is it Mother's Shakthi in an object sparking out or is it the

devotees own kundalini ignited by the darshan of the object and

travelling to meet Hers?

Om Namah Shivaya,

I will look at the photo again as soon as possible! I can say that when I am

hit by Amma's voice while listening to bhajans, it's always the same ones at

different times.

That one does get me every time. Not always to that

extent, but I always find myself stopping whatever I'm

doing to listen. There are other bhajans that make me

feel very blissful too, and sometimes I'll hear an old

one in a new way...

I think maybe neither? It is the guru's grace causing

us to regognize Her. I've shown pictures of Amma, and

played Her bhajans for several people, and they don't

always have a profound reaction. Usually people say,

"Wow, She's really pretty," or something. But then I

remember that the first time I met Mother, while I

could tell that She was genuine, I didn't feel a

connection. I think She didn't "reveal" Herself to me

that day because I wasn't ready. However, She kept

sneaking up on my thoughts for an entire year, until I

was REALLY desperate to see Her and get Her darshan. I

didn't even know that She comes every year, and was

seriously considering going to India when a friend of

mine called to say, "You should go check out this

Saint this weekend..."

I think Mother's Shakti is definately in those

objects, but it's be Her grace that we begin to feel

it. And of course, it's not the object we feel, but

Mother Herself.

All I can say is that I look forward to those moments

with all my heart. They keep us focused on Her, and

our undivided attention opens us to those moments.

Jai Jai Jai Ma!
