Guest guest
OM NAMAH SHIVAY Well....I was attending the IAM session in San Ramon this past weekend. I had gotten there well ahead of the scheduled start, and mingled amidst the "gift shop" and Amma's presence was all over... This was only my 3rd trip to San Ramon - and the last couple times Amma was there for darshan. It sure felt different with no Amma this time! The session kickoff happened with Bhajans... (Last time around, in December, I enjoyed pure bliss with Amma leading the bhajans, hat is so difficult to achieve when I am by myself trying to meditate at home....I always give up "It ain't happening" as so many TO-DOs start popping up into my head.....Guru's grace and the right Satsang should give me the much needed kick for my spiritual growth..) As the bhajan started, the air in the room was thick with a mood...it was hard to pinpoint. And then strangely, right in the first bhajan I started to cry... Tried my best, but couldn't get it to stop (it was quite embarassing for a guy to be welling up) I would control it, and very soon the tap would flow again I just couldn't understand why... Trying to analyze it it was partially because Amma wasn't there and also because her tremendous compassion - when she gave me my first hug back in December - kept coming back to me. An image of her, sitting on stage eyes closed, was stuck in my head... And then in a flash, I saw Amma in the image of Kali just pop into my head for an instant... As the bhajans ended, the strange mood evaporated. A question I have relates to the greeting that Amma's devotees have.. Namah Shivaya. Does anyone have the history on this? It could have been something else...why this? I remember the first time I was at San Ramon (summer last year) on a whim - due to an article I read in the San Jose Mercury News about Amma's hug, being greeted by the parking lot attendant "Namah Shivaya" - and I felt I was at home... BTW Good IAM session...if you have never meditated before...this will certainly set you on the right footing. It is worth a try for those of you thinking about it... I am sure all of us are eagerly awaiting Amma's arrival ...wherever we are. This time, I plan to attend my first retreat and Devi Bhava. I would like to give a link here...Phil Servedio's home page ...Marin county guy http://www.heartspace.org/writings/journals/may94.html If anybody is seeking inspiration, there is plenty here. Spiritual growth is not impossible, just got to latch onto this goal with a vengenance and passion. It will happen! ---- Shiva Bhakta http://www.jyotirlinga.com
Guest guest
Sivabhakta, This is usually the norm with Amma; I guess all of Her devout shishyas had something like this, though it appears in your case that you had an extra something from Amma. Now you are under the watchful and protective eye of the Mother(this means that you can longer be mischief mongering:-)), and thank Amma for Her grace. > Does anyone have the history on this? > It could have been something else...why this? > I remember the first time I was at San Ramon (summer last year) on > > BTW Good IAM session...if you have never meditated before...this will certainly set you on the right footing. BTW SB, is this to mean that if you are an intermediate to advanced meditator, then the IAM technique will not be that useful?? Can someone please clarify? The IAM session is coming up soon here in Seattle but may not be able to attend it, so I'd like to know if this is another technique that is just "nice to know", "have some impact" or "life altering". -yogaman ps. writing this mail gave me a sense of deja vu; I think I already know the answer but would still like to get some feedback. Guest guest
Blessed soul, The indescribable feeling of Amma's overflowing compassion coupled with an uncontrollable tendency to cry, is a classic example of the flow of 'Kripa' or Grace! By attempting to suppress the tendency to cry during those moments you're infact disrupting the flow of huge amounts of prana into your system, thus disturbing the cleansing action on your 3 bodies. Brother, better leave your chauvanism in your closet next time you go for bhajans! The image of Maha Kali indicates severing of karmic debris, latent tendencies, realisation of great knowledge or development of awareness, or all of them together. It is said that during the vision, one has to feel Her as one's own or feel the inner connection. Dear son of Amma, if you feel the connection at all times, you are one among the luckiest souls on this planet! "Salutations to the cosmic consciouness (God) within you!".. thats what Namah Sivaya means. During the early days, when ppl used to come for Her darshan, Amma used to wish them that way. She advised devotees to wish each other "Aum Namah Sivaya" or "Hari Aum". Since Amma uses it very often, "Namah Sivaya" stuck. Aum Namah Sivaya! P.S: ...as a shiva bhakta he saw Shiva in every being... Shiva Bhakta <shivabhakta wrote: OM NAMAH SHIVAY Well....I was attending the IAM session in San Ramon this past weekend. And "in your closet" maybe is not the choicest metaphore? This is like "Lost in Translation" or something. Am i rude to say? BIG APOLOGIES! Guest guest
Siva Bhakta, We also say Hari Om or Jai Ma, but Om Namah Shivaya became most popular, as Arun related. I'd always get tounge tied using ONS as a greeting and sputter nervously "Omshnamavaya" or something (silly fool)... so I say Jai Ma instead. I do love my Mother's husband Lord Shiva very much, but Hara Maha Deva didn't bless my mouth the same as Devi and Hari! and Devi's Child, Man o'yoga, Don't know about IAM (yet), but you must know that some of the most simple sadhana can be the most profound, and some more elaborate can be like 70% performance and 30% experience for most people. Anyhow, i think IAM is important as a gift of instruction from Mother to Her children. I don't know why (my feelings only) those who consider Amma as their Mother wouldn't jump at IAM like fresh baked cookies from MOM. IAM looks like a big chewy chocolate oatmeal raisin cookie straigh outta Amma's oven to me! Does anyone know if we can get IAMed on the summer tour?
