Hi everyone,

I think the main thing to keep in mind is how

wonderful it is to have met Amma. Happy am I

to be Her devotee, happy to be in Her holy

presence at all times, happy to talk about Her,

happy just to love Her from a distance, happy

to give Her my life, happy to long for Her every

moment of my existence, and yes, happy to laugh,

joke and even whine about Her occasionally.

As a song says, I wouldn't have missed it for the

world! I am ever grateful to Her for all Her

work on this blockhead!

Here's a poem that makes me smile. I hope it

will you, too.

TIRED OF SPEAKING SWEETLY

Love wants to reach out and manhandle us,

Break all our teacup talk of God.

If you had the courage and

Could give the Beloved His choice, some nights,

He would just drag you around the room

By your hair,

Ripping from your grip all those toys in the world

That bring you no joy.

Love sometimes gets tired of speaking sweetly

And wants to rip to shreds

All your erroneous notions of truth

That make you fight within yourself, dear one,

And with others,

Causing the world to weep

On too many fine days.

God wants to manhandle us,

Lock us inside of a tiny room with Himself

And practice His dropkick.

The Beloved sometimes wants

To do us a great favor:

Hold us upside down

And shake all the nonsense out.

But when we hear

He is in such a “playful drunken mood”

Most everyone I know

Quickly packs their bags and hightails it

Out of town.

The Main Thing

Namaste!

Jyotsna, you have actually made me laugh on a day I needed nothing more -

thank you eternally for the poem!At the risk of too many details, let me

tell you how the day has gone so far:

My husband, Ron, has a heart problem that we know will be terminal and his

health is slipping more rapidly than I can cope with. He has been unable to

sleep for several days and had become ill with some unpleasant symptoms-all

of which he told me last night he thought was related to dehydrating. I

dreamed during the night that I literally started yelling at him that the

stress was too much - if all of this was due to dehyrdation, DRINK!!!!!

To help, Ron's mother is lobbying to buy our land so she can have our barn

when he dies- no concern about THAT part of her ugly equation, just who get

the goodies.

My munchkins failed to distinguish between their, there, they're for the

sixth time on a test Thursday - despite knowing which is which if I present

all 3 at the same time; for some reason, they can't retain this if asked to

chose, from a sentence presented orally, which is the correct word for the

context! I woke up this morning with a migraine aura and an email that a

dear cousin had died - and I burned the bacon for our breakfast to absolute

cinders. I had just put your email on the screen when Ron called me over to

have hot cocoa with him, so had not yet read the poem when I spent our

entire breakfast telling him that all of the things I read say that we need

to develop evenness of mind and that I currently had NO evenness of mind

about anything and seemed to be running backwards with rocket packs

attached.

After finishing breakfast and a tirade that is out of keeping with my

natural tendencies, I read your poem and literally giggled out loud. Talk

about appropriate!

Delighted,

Snehalata

Dear Snehalata,

I am so sorry to hear about what's going on with your husband. I will keep you

both in

my prayers, and I wish you peace...
