Hi All,

I decided to share these notes taken in Detroit

at one of Swamiji's classes.

Four Steps to Getting an Answer from Amma

1. Be as open as possible.

2. Don't let the mind interpret.

3. Allow Amma's words to simply sink in.

4. Sit quietly and meditate on the answer.

The words disappear at some point. This is not

just about Her words. By "thinking" you miss the

meaning because Her words come straight from the

Beyond. For us, it's faith to believe this.

"Eveness of mind in all circumstances of life

is true spirituality." (Amma)

Surrender is a complete non-judgmental state.

It is easier for the mind to identify with

negative thoughts and emotions because they

are more familiar to us.

He told the story of a fellow on tour staff who

always seemed to be in a good mood, and seemed to

not be offended when he should be. Swamiji said

he decided to find out if this guy was a fool or

what! When S. talked to the man, he said that

actually he sometimes feels quite hurt by the

things people say to him, but he interiorizes

himself and says, "I am Amma's innocent child."

Amma says "Be a beginner--become a child."

Then Swamiji told a story, which, interestingly

enough, I heard the first time nearly 50 years

ago in my small fundamentalist Sunday School.

A wealthy man calls his builder and tells him to

build a house for a large sum of money. Then the

wealthy man goes away and leaves the builder

to do the job. The builder decides to use cheap

materials in the house and pocket the difference

in cost. He takes many shortcuts, and then when

the "owner" returns, he tells the builder that the

house is not for the owner, but is a reward for

all the hard work the builder has done through

the years for the wealthy man. The house with all

the cheap shortcuts is his own!

We build our lives a day at a time, often putting

less than our best in the building. Each day we

hammer a nail, place a board, etc. Build it wisely.

Build our true homes. Amma will help us build.

Om Namah Shivayah,

Jyotsna
