Guest guest
After I first met Amma I used to often but randomly smell incense - it was sweet and spicy - I thought it might be from something inside the house, but I would also smell it out in our backyard - I often got into abstracted states after first meeting Amma and I would go out in the garden to think about her so as not to disturb my husband who couldn't understand what was going on with me - until he met Amma himself the next year. I brought one of my patients to meet Amma and have her darshan, and afterward, within the week, she woke up one night smelling a sweet and spicy incense (not rose, she thought it was sandlewood) very strongly. This woman was not spiritually active, and as far as i know never returned to see Amma again (she was actually a patient I was seeing for a colleague while she was away, and so I only treated her for about a month, and didn't see her again after that). Anyway she felt inspired by this experience to take TM training. I think this is interesting too, that sometimes when people have very strong experiences with Amma they feel inspired to become more involved with spirituality but not necessarily with Amma (!) I brought another patient for Amma's darshan, a man with aids in 1990, after attending a farewell party for him at his job where it was widely expected he would soon die. I just saw him again this month (!) (December 2003) and found out he is a kundalini yoga instructor now, and he looks fabulous! Does anyone else have any stories of this happening to people they know? I mean, meeting Amma, and then getting involved in spirituality, but not necessarily in the context of Amma's ashram community - of course, the whole world is Amma's community, really - so I guess wherever they find their spiritual connection is OK . I think it's kind of beautiful. Om Amritesvaryai Namah, Kasturi
Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya! Thank you for sharing these inspiring leelas with us! I smelled incense (seemed like a combination of sandalwood and nag champa) while grocery shopping a week ago but I didn't give it any credence at the time because I figured they were either selling incense or using it to make the atmosphere more festive, though I was in the frozen section at the time and never did see any incense burning, or for sale:) Kirsten
Guest guest
Yes, that sweet fragrance of raw sandalwood paste. I remember. I remember feeling shocked and a bit scared as the fragrance came at me from nowhere, just as the thought that I could be wasting my time reading all these Amma books, came to my mind.
