Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya, Amma always seems to guide me to the perfect teaching at the very moment I most need it! I found myself reacting to situations with irritation and mild anger today, after which I came upon the following quote at Amritapuri.org. I had never heard Amma speak about this particular method of dealing with challenging situations and negative emotions before, so it was quite an inspiration for me when I read Her teaching about this issue. "When you are in the midst of an upsetting situation, can you simply observe what is happening? Can you stop thinking that someone is insulting and abusing you? Can you forget that you are being treated unfairly and let go of the wish to do something about it? Don't be abusive. Don't react. Try to realise that the real problem is not what is happening, but how you are reacting to it. When you see that you are going to react negatively, at this point, pause. Stop talking. Say to your mind, 'No, don't say anything now. You will get a better opportunity to present the whole matter in a more effective way. But now you keep quiet for the time being.' During this pause, try to think of something positive, something elevating, something sweet, something that you consider unforgettable. Try to recall a pleasant event or memory. Focus all your energies, all your thoughts on that. If you can do this, you won't be bothered or angered by the ridiculous words and unbearable face of the other person." ~Amma

Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Sara! Please forgive me for not including the link to Amma's teaching in my initial post! http://www.amritapuri.org/teachings/house/house4.htm I found it while doing a search at ammachi.org on the topic of "anger". I recently discovered that I will be having five major Mars transits while I am on the North India tour, so I imagine there will be ample opportunities to put Her teaching into practice in the near future! I am leaving January 11th, Amma willing.....I will keep in touch with the list while I am there. Thank you to everyone for your assistance in helping me prepare for my journey! With gratitude, Kirsten
