Introduction of I AM Technique: Integral Amrita Meditation

Years ago when Amma was meditating on the seashore, certain

meditation techniques dawned in Her mind. One of these has come to be

known as the I AM Technique, or Integrated Amrita Meditation. In

2003, Amma decided it was the right time to make this technique

available to people all over the world.

So far classes have been taught at Amma's Amritapuri Ashram and

throughout India, as well as in America, Europe and Japan.

Householders, monastics, Indians, Westerners, artists, teachers,

business leaders—old and young alike, people from all walks of

life

have taken the I AM Technique course. Like Amma, the meditation is

available to everyone. The only requirement is a desire to know

deeper levels of peace, love and fulfilment.

The response has been overwhelming. After only a few months,

practitioners say they feel deeper levels of peace and awareness in

their day-to-day lives. And many claim to have more patience with and

compassion for their co-workers, friends and family members. Many say

that they have more energy throughout the day since they began their

practice.

Today, many spiritual organizations charge exorbitant amounts to

teach meditation. But from the beginning Amma made it very clear that

I AM Technique should be offered free of charge. After all, that is

India's tradition—knowledge is handed down from the Guru to

those who

are sincere in their desire to know their true nature. And in reality

this is what one ultimately learns through I AM Technique. How can

one charge for that?

As Amma always reminds us, we are not isolated islands; we are like

links on a chain. Therefore the sense of peace and love we experience

through this meditation practice, not only benefits the individual,

but society as a whole.
