Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya! I am wondering if anyone has seen the video entitled, "Everyday a Festival". I am trying to figure out a good video to show my family before I head to Amritapuri. I thought that this video would be good because it takes place at the ashram, so they will be able to see where I will be living. My mother and sister are unfamiliar with Amma and with Hinduism in general, and are agnostic/non-religious. Guest guest
Dear Kirsten, I often think about this question also, and the one (old) video that I think is best for absolute newcomers is "In The Footsteps of the Mother: One Man's Search for the Truth." It's about a 30 minute video that shows how this man from Finnland became interested in Amma then flew to meet her. I've also wondered about "River of Love" as it's the story of her life. My daughter, a non-devotee, said the biography part was interesting, but after that was "pure devotee-speak," which was not appealing to her. I have "Festival of Love," but can't recall anything in particular about it. My favorite (next to River of Love) is "Unexpected Darshan" (part 1), but then I'm a devotee. Guest guest
Jyotsna, I really appreciate your taking the time to provide me with reviews of these videos! I think I will take your advice and go with In The Footsteps of the Mother. I would ideally like to avoid causing my family anxiety about my involvement with Amma, and from the sound of it, this particular video seems like it will be a good first step:) Thank you so much for your suggestions! Gratefully, Kirsten
Guest guest
Dear Kirsten, Thanks for the kind words! I do have an extra copy of "In The Footsteps..." if you don't have it. I don't know if they still sell it or not. I'm home with a severe case of laryngitis, so took the time to watch "Everyday a Festival" today. For my family, it would be too long with too many Indian festivals, too many pada pujas, etc., though the introduction is very nice for newcomers, and it's more up-to-date. Guest guest
Jyotsna, I'm so sorry to hear that your body is under the weather - I hope you get well soon! Thank you for letting me know about the Festival video and for being willing to send me a copy of "In the Footsteps"! I'm leaving in 4 weeks, so I'm not sure if there would be enough time for transport of the video, but I greatly appreciate your generous offer! They do sell it at the bookstore, but I'm not sure how long it would take to get here....I will look into it asap:) With appreciation, Kirsten
