Guest guest
Happy TGIF! (TMIF?) I am feeling hopelessly confused and suspect Manoj is right: it's time to quit thinking and surrender this particular struggle at Mother's feet. I have the feeling I am misunderstanding what the term "nondualist" means. It seems that it should refer to those who do not accept that there is separation anywhere. I had assumed that nondualists believe that duality does not exist - that, ultimately, the Creator/creation are one. Would someone with a better brain/more insight please clarify this for me. I think I had presumed that all, or most, of us on this list are nondualists but my understanding of the word may well be completely backwards. Help, please! Guest guest
I believe dualism is seeing God and Atman as eternally separate. Many vaishnavites are dualists in that the ultimate goal is to exists eternally by God to whorship Him. Non-dualism is seeing God and Atman as ultimately One. Many Saivtites are non-dual in that the ultimate goal is to merge back into the Supreme Reality, or God, or Brahma. I think seeing Amma only is dualism, but seeing Amma as only an aspect of the Ultimate Reality is non-dualism. (Amma is the lightbulb, be aware of the electricity) It is Amma's teaching, as well as many other saints', that neither path is superior and both will lead to Realization. Both paths will likely be followed by every individual among their thousands of lives. Whichever path one follows in this life is likely the correct path right now. I think I read in Awaken Children a story where Amma says that God gives us what we need whether we're dualist or non-dualist. God either comes to us or waits for us to go to Him. Neither is "better". > I have the feeling I am misunderstanding what the > term "nondualist" means.
