I wonder how many on the list will be going to India to celebrate

Amma's birthday with her. Some list members may already be living in

India and wonder how many of you all will be going to Amritapuri for

the celebrations.

I won't be going to Amritapuri next month :( I have

at least 2000 reasons for not going, all of them $$$.

Even if I could come up with the bucks for the air

fare, and other travel expenses, there would be other

obstacles such as obtaining time off work (if I were

to go to India, I would want to stay for at least a

month), I am still processing my experiences from my

1995 India visit, and last but not least, my parents

would go ballistic if I went to India during the High

Holy Days. Amma's birthday falls on Rosh Hashanah!

However, there is a synagogue in Cochin, and even a

"Jew Town", that was home to Cochin's very old Jewish

community, though there aren't many Jews left. (after

India's independence most emigrated to Israel, or back

to the UK)
