Dear Friends,

I'm curious to know if there are many on this list planning to go for

Mother's 50th birthday celebration. I just returned from the Rhode

Island retreat. Amma seems to be really encourging us to come for her

birthday. A flyer was handed out on the cue during Devi Bhava and the

first paragraph said that when the idea for a celebration for Amma's

birthday was first brought up, she discouraged it and said Amma has

no desire for a celebration..anyway, Amma was never born (something

like this) and never dies...alluding to the fact that she is the

eternal being. But it seems Amma has also alluded to some sort of

disaster in 2004, either natural or man-made, and so it was decided

that a celebration where all of Amma's children gather in the name of

peace could have a strong effect on reducing the impact of this

disaster. At the end of Devi Bhava Dayamrita Sw. said that the single

flame of so many devotees gathered in the name of world peace would

become a huge fire (paraphrased) and help alleviate some bad effects.

So, how many of you are planning to go. I think I probably will. It

is completely out of character for me to go for such a huge

character, but it seems Amma's sankalpa re: this event is very strong.

First paragraph as follows:

When the idea of Amma's 50th Birthday Celebration was raised, Amma

immediately dismissed the idea, saying that "Amma is not interested

in any birthday celebrations for Herself. She knows that there is no

birth or death for Her." However, Amma had earlier mentioned that in

the year 2005, a large-scale disaster, either natural or human-

induced, would occur. Amma also suggested that a spiritual gathering

be organized with devotees from around the world to pray for world

peace and harmony, in order to reduce the negative impact of such a

disaster. Remembering this, Amma's children then decided that Her

50th Birthday could be clelebrated with this focus in mind.

End of first paragraph...as it goes on but this is what captured my

attention.

Dear Siblings in Amma,

Please be assured that the organizers of this event intend to include as

many as possible who cannot attend via webcast and hopefully satellite

broadcast. No doubt everyone will be notified of the best time to join the

meditation, as with other worldwide vigils made possible with modern

technology.

And Amma has told some of her children not to go, for good reasons such as

they are starting school. So don't worry. Mother knows best for each one of

us and we can trust her always to take us closer to our True Self.

And don't forget we can participate even now. On the eve of the new

millennium Amma demonstrated the 108 repetitions of Om Lokhaha. A good

practice still.

In Her grace,

premarupa

Aum Amriteshvaryai Namah
