Guest guest
I've been contemplating the famous "Serenity Prayer," in use by millions of Twelve-Step groups. <Dear God (or Higher Power)-- Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, ...the Courage to change the things that I can, ...and the Wisdom to know the difference.> Don't these three gifts of God sound suspiciously like the Three Shaktis of Hindu tradition? The Serenity of Lakshmi Devi (the Power to Maintain) The Courage of Durga Devi (the Power to Transform) The Wisdom of Sarasvati Devi (the Power to Create) Indeed, couldn't "Higher Power" be translated into Sanskrit as <ParaShakti>? <Om Parashaktye namaha> -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Kalipadma. That, I think, is a very good 'interpretation'. But, as usual, an interpretation is subjective, i.e. it appeals to certain people only and may not be universally accepted. Regardless of its acceptance, if you feel empowered by this, then I suggest you should further that thought in your self.... Many people make many such connections, and what matters is that they benefit by that. I made quite a few such connections too in the past, but I have not recorded them in any journal, and I do not remember any right now, else I would have shared them here. I think the key to these connections is this: the entire universe in INTER-RELATED, even if we cannot see ALL THE CONNECTIONS of this beautiful inter-relation.... So, it is likely that you see some connections while others don't and vice-versa, and so you just go with your heart at such times. I also believe that this premise also serves the basis for the study that is formally called 'comparative religion' Jai Ma! Guest guest
Uncanny!! Shaktas are hiding everywhere! How about this: There are three scientific creation theories (quoting Isaac Asimov). A) The universe may be unchanging, on the whole, and therefore have neither a beginning nor an end - like a fountain, which, although individual water drops rise and fall, maintains its overall shape indefinitely (Brahma ?) B) The universe may be changing progressively; that is, in one direction only, and may therefore have a distinct beginning and a different end - like a person, who is born, grows older (never younger), and eventually dies. (Shiva?) C) The universe may be changing cyclically, back and forth, and therefore have and end that is at the beginning, so that the process starts over endlessly - like the seasons, which progress from spring, through summer, fall, and winter, but then return to spring again, so that the process starts over... (Vishnu?) The essay I'm quoting is a critique on the creation theories of Astronomer Robert Jastrow called "God Is Not The Creator" where Asimov argues that Science is responsible for creation, not God.. of course, because the poor dear can't see there is no difference.
