Guest guest
What does this initiation do for one of Amma's children... and what would be the process of this...? I also ask that you please send your Prayers to me as I am having a hard time coming up with money to keep my girls in daycare....the last thing I want to do is to pull them out and disrupt there lives... Please send all the prayers you can. Thank you for you kindness. Guest guest
I know Amma gives initiation in <mantra sadhana> on her Devi Bhava days during her tours. <Devi bhava> ("in the mode of the Goddess") is when Amma channels the persona of the Great Goddess of Hinduism. They dress her in a sumptuous sari, a crown, and rich ornaments, and seat her on a throne with a glittery parasol over her head. Thousands of devotees line up for <darshan> (when they receive a blessing and a hug). You may ask one of the assistants how to go about getting mantra initiation. Usually a separate line is formed. The initiate is brought up to the Goddess (Amma), who will ask you what form of God you are attracted to. Amma consults with the <brahmacharyas> (monks) around her, and then whispers a Sanskrit mantra in your ear (don't worry -- it's also written down phonetically so you can memorize it). Later, a <brahmacarya> will elaborate on practice -- how to sit, how to use a <mala> (rosary), when to chant. What does the initiation do for you? Well, many mantras require thousands of repetitions before they are "empowered." (That's why it's difficult to use a mantra taken from a book.) A mantra given by a Satguru (like Amma) is already empowered. You may use it to calm the mind, identify with your chosen aspect of God, and bring the four goals (virtue, wealth, pleasure, and release) into your life immediately. In the meantime, chanting mantra, even without Amma's initiation, is better than not chanting mantra. Mahamantras may be repeated without special initiation -- I'd recommend that you chant "Om namah Shivaya" for 108 times (if you don't have a rosary, count on your fingers!) every morning and evening at dawn and dusk if possible. A regular practice of mantra chanting brings many rewards and attunes you to Divine will. Hinduism is perhaps unique in that it has specific aspects of God (Devas) with specific attributes who yeild specific results. I chose Shiva for you because he is God of Transformation, and can help you deal better with changes in your life. But read up on the other Devas, too. Vishnu (usually in his incarnations as Krishna or Rama) brings caring, devotion and stability. Shakti, the Goddess, has many aspects but they all bring nurturing and reveal paths to Power. Ganesha removes obstacles and keeps things moving smoothly. And if you have no interest in Hindu deities, there are aspects of the Divine without attributes. Amma is ecumenical. I understand she gives mantras for Buddha, Jesus, Mary, Allah, Yahweh, and other non-Hindu aspects of the Divine as well. As a Mahatma (realized being), Amma can be your connection to your own awareness that every living thing is sacred and a portion of God. I hope this helps. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Fri, 13 Jun 2003 09:40:15 -0700 (PDT) Robin Wilson <lilymoonjewel writes: > What does this initiation do for one of Amma's children... and what > would be the process of this...? > > I also ask that you please send your Prayers to me as I am having a > hard time coming up with money to keep my girls in daycare....the > last thing I want to do is to pull them out and disrupt there > lives...
