Guest guest
Sanskrit Spoken By All in Tiny Karnataka Village http://www.hvk.org/articles/0203/35.html KARNATAKA, INDIA, January 30, 2003: Sanskrit, believed by some to be the mother of all languages, has overcome a brief lull in its verbal existence and has again begun to bloom in the tiny Karnataka village of Mattur. The advent of English education early in the last century did make some dent into the Sanskrit-speaking habit of the successive generations. However, this trend was stopped in 1992 by H.H. Vishveshathirtha, head of Udupi Pejawar Mutt. Swamiji inspired the village to rekindle the spirit of the ancient language, which eventually found its way into the everyday life of its people. Today most children in the schools take Sanskrit as the optional language and the village population converse in Sanskrit. -- from Hindu Press International listserv. -.- . ...- .- .-..
