Amma's Presence

I wanted to share how Amma so perfectly and lovingly orchestrated the events in

my life the second week of November, 2002.

My 90 year old father was in the hospital with pneumonia. Complications made his

condition critical. I had a decision to make about whether to leave town to see

Amma in Dearborn or stay in Cleveland since it was apparent my father's time was

limited. I was being pulled in both directions.

I spoke with my father's doctor on Tuesday and asked if she thought he was

stable enough so I could leave town for 5 days. Her answer was yes. I drove to

Michigan Wednesday morning; my sister flew in for the retreat from Philadelphia

at the same time. It was wonderful being in Amma's Divine presence for her

morning and evening programs.

On Thursday my sister, a friend and I drove the short distance to Ann Arbor. We

ate at a wonderful restaurant and visited some of their unique shops. I also was

able to sell 6 of my Sri Yantra designs to a bookstore (thank you, Amma). Amma

fulfilled our desires--mundane as they were. It was a fun time for all of us. We

started to turn our thoughts to heading back to Dearborn. The retreat was going

to start shortly.

My sister's cell phone rang just as we were walking back to my car. My brother

in Cleveland said that things went terribly wrong at the hospital and our father

would not live through the night.

Both my sister and I have great difficulty with night driving. To complicate

things it was snowing and sleeting. The three and half hour drive that evening

was out of the question. More than anything, I wanted to be in Amma's arms.

My sister and I both got numbers in the 30s for darshan. By the Grace of Amma we

were able to kneel at Her feet for the Pada Puja. I sobbed through the bhajans

that seemed to go on forever that night. Finally, darshan began.

My sister and I approached Mother together for our darshan. Through my tears I

blurted out that our father was going to die that night. In perfect English She

said, "He's going to die tonight?" How bizarre I must have sounded to be telling

Divine Amma when our father would die! Amma said we must go and say our goodbyes

to our father.

A dear friend that sets up the Pada Puja for Amma gave me some of the Pada Puja

water to take with us. I had just read Amma's conversation in Lead Us To The

Light: "The pada puja water is filled with the mahatma's energy. If one drinks

the pada puja water, it is not necessary to go to Benares or anywhere else.

There is nothing more purifying than pada puja water--it is the real Ganges." My

friend also tucked some sacred ash into my hand.

My sister and I left at 6:30 the next morning. I have no doubt that it was

Amma's intervention that he was still alive when we reached the hospital. I was

able to drip some of the Pada Puja water into his mouth and rub sacred ash on

his forehead. My sister, my brother and I spent an incredible day with our

father. He was fully conscious and aware until he closed his eyes at 7pm when he

took his last breath. Amma truly blessed us.

Shortly before I left the house for the funeral on Monday, I logged on to my

computer for the first time since returning to Cleveland. My homepage is set to

Ammachi.org. I just stared at the screen. There was a picture of Amma standing

right next me (it had been taken the previous Wednesday when Amma was leaving

the darshan hall and stopped next to me to greet some children). What a

confirmation of Her Presence in my life during such a difficult time.

In Amma's Love,

Vidya

Dear Vidya,

thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful story.

I am trying to see through the tears in my eyes as I type this reply.

What wonderful Grace your father, and you,and your brother and sister

got. Your father spent that last day probably as he would have wanted

it; surrounded by loving children, with love and faith in God

clearly present in the room.

Your story reminded me to thank Amma today for you, the List, and

Amma's Graces in my life.

Your story personally hit home with me, as I expericened Amma´s

miraculous Grace and timing in the events that happened around my own

father's death last March. My brother & I were in tears over the

truly miraculous events that happened, and their timing, during the

last days of my father's life.

Thank You, Amma.

Thank you again, Vidya.

Amma's forever grateful daughter,

Sara
