I finally figured out why Amma's stories of

giving devotees a mantra and having them fast on

Saturdays to prevent death were always Saturday.

Besides the obvious, that is, Saturday is ruled

by Yama the god of death and the planet is the

slowest moving and is also inauspicious, and

that chanting a mantra brings very quick results.

I read somewhere that of all the planets, the most

effective means of appeasing Saturn is through

direct sadhana, versus someone doing the puja

for you. I'm sure having a Saturn puja performed

is still useful, but I think I read in the little

book about the Brahmasthanam temples that they have

public group pujas for Saturn (and Rahu/Ketu I think)

so that people can participate, similar to the group

Devi puja before Devi Bhava.
