Guest guest
I think one major problem these days is that people listen to the stories of the old days, or read stories, and think that the guru is always supposed to guide every single thing, and you should always ask your guru before doing something. Reminds me of the story I read where the early ashramites came across an injured man and they debated whether or not they should take him to the hospital or ask Amma first. So, they had one person drive him to the hospital while the rest went and asked if they should... Of course Amma admonished them for thinking they actually had to ask about something like that. The old days, are like what Amma's swamis experienced, the good karma of having very close contact with the guru for long periods of time. Nowadays, this is rare. The goal of the guru is to raise you to his/her awareness of Realization. I know of a guru who may or may not claim to be realized, but has set up shop as such and has extremely devoted followers. This particular guru follows the old way, in that he expects his closest disciples to ask permission for every little thing, and they don't go anywhere unless its approved by the guru.
