Om Namah Shivaya,

Re: the quote below...yes, they were celibate, and highly evolved/realized

souls...I am guessing their "union" took place on a higher plane of

existence. If they were both absorbed in a state of samadhi, how can there

not be perfect union between them? They would not even retain separate egos.

It would be a more perfect union than any we can show in our marriages of

this world. Furthermore, I would also point out that having children

(physically of one's body) is not part of the definition of family (there are

plenty of childless married couples around, and those who have adopted

children). Sarada Devi was as a mother to all of Bhagavan's disciples. And

how is it that our own Amma calls us her children, and we call her Mother?

If she is our Mother, who is the Father (as one cynic once said to my

parents)? She must be the pure Energy (Shakti) that animates the clay

(Matter) of Existence...the very principle of Creation...creating a hundred

million forms, planets, and species,...we, in contrast, labor to raise a few

of our own species over a lifetime.

That's the nth part of an atom of the difference between Amma and us...I do

believe.

Hence my statement preceding the one quoted below..."albeit not in a family

life that is normally endorsed (understood) by the world around us"...i.e.

people like you and me. They are a model, not one easily followed...Gandhi

was more moderate, initially a more worldly family man, and then a celibate

householder.

Om Namah Shivaya,

Usha

Usha,

Good points !

IIRC, Sri Ramakrishna has also said that if we could practice 1/16th of

what he had done then we were on our way.

Namah Shivaya,

Do keep in mind, dear siblings looking in on householding from the outside,

that Amma has inspired many of her householders toward celibacy.

Aum Amriteshvaryai Namah
