Grow up with Amma!

Here's a little story from yesterday.

We took our little daughter, Maya, for Ammachi's blessings at the NYC

Darshan a few weeks ago. Maya is just about 23 months old, and

Ammachi seemed to make an impression on her. The day after the

darshan, she made up a little song (of her own accord) consisting

solely of the words, "Ammachi, Ammachi, Ammachi, Ammachi" sung to a

tune of her own devising. So I bought a picture of Ammachi for her

room, so that she can always see Amma by her.

Anyway, yesterday, Maya was having lunch on her new Sesame Street

placemat featuring a few of her favorite characters. We played a

game pairing off best friends among the characters, Big Bird with

Snuffy, Elmo with Zoe, Bert and Ernie, and so on. After exhausting

the Sesame St. gang, I enquired who Maya's best friend was, mentally

placing different odds on her various cousins and playdate buddies.

She thought for a moment, and then said clearly, "Ammachi"! We

hadn't even mentioned Her Name that day. Needless to say, I was

thrilled!

I hope my child grows up with that implicit faith in Amma which

transcends all the more transactional ways in which we deal with the

world and its relationships. I think to grow up with faith is what I

would wish for her more than anything else. Too know that the inward

world is infinitely deeper than we are able to perceive in our daily

lives.

Thank you for all your postings,

Om Namah Shivayai,

Usha
