Guest guest
I need some more detailed instructions on the Vir asan or warrior pose that is part of the Sadhana. I know the basics from Sadhana guidelines (sit on left heel, right knee against chest and prayer pose) but find it awkward. I can't get my spine straight and I don't really know what to struggle towards. And what is the goal of this pose, I've heard it has something to do with the courage gland - spline? - and therefore only done on one side? I would really like to know as much as possible to get it right, for instance locks, breathing, hip joint/pelvis angle, weight distribution on feet/knee, neck, and what is stretched/tensed/relaxed. Is the left foot to be in straight line with the shin and where is the the left heel place, how much pressure should be on this heel? Many questions and many thanks for replies Jan-Erik Stockholm
Guest guest
Sat Nam Jan-Erik Very good question. From the ancient Egyptian (Kemetic) tradition of yoga, the posture called Virasan is a posture that expresses and cultivates the state of "adoration" which can vary from any number of other states of being such as "devotion". This info I obtained from Dr. Muata Ashby. His website is at http://egyptianyoga.com/ Contact him if you like. We have all seen the act of "going down on one knee" when a man proposes marriage to a woman. You can read something from that. There is a sense of sovereignty, though, that shouldn't be overlooked. I can't offer much more than that except that the spine should be straight and the chin lightly tucked (with head level) as is always the case with Kundalini meditations or pranayam. Cover the basics and let the attitude fill in the rest. In Kundalini and the Ancient traditions of yoga we are praying to CREATION with our whole body, and not with just our words or minds. Sat Nam, Dharam Singh Millis, MA USA Adoration: (Noun) 1. A feeling of profound love and admiration 2. The act of admiring strongly 3. Worship given to God alone. janerik_z wrote: > > > I need some more detailed instructions on the Vir asan or warrior pose > that is part of the Sadhana. Guest guest
Sat Nam Jan-Erik, I think Dharam's mail has pretty much covered your question. I would just like to add a few things from my own personal experience. Vir asana is the warrior pose and as kundalini yogis, in a way, we are all warriors of light. The light of wisdom is our weapon and the light of our soul is our armor. The warrior prays and meditates sitting on one heel because this is the most suitable position for his/her armor (we learned this in the gurdwara last summer in the yoga festival in France). Vir asana keeps us alert, always ready to get up and face the situation, but with hands united in our heart center, because the warrior of light, fights with honor from the heart. When things get tough or when sometimes I feel that my soul is threatened from the dark, I do the Wahe Guru Wahe Jio meditation in vir asana, to gain the strength and courage to stand tall and deal with life with the light of my heart. It's funny that you ask this because last week I did this meditation in class! Love and Light Sat Atma Athens, Greece
