YK OR Drugs

Sat Nam,

Yogi Bhajan is very clear if you do Kundalini yoga then don't do drugs. KY

opens our energy so powerfully that any drugs can be harmful. I knew

someone who did both and the guy had a very bad experience. (He chose KY

after that.) Yogi Bhajan has given us KY so we can get high naturally. It

does take longer but it lasts longer too. And there are no downers.

YB told use 2 summers ago that marijuna changes the orientation of the

brain, so that when we leave this planet we will miss our mark. It is like

aiming for Mars (or Nirvana) and having a clitch in our projectory system.

We can't reach our destination. Should have heard the silence in the

audience after he slipped that fact into his lecture. As hard as we work

down here to prepare for the rest of our journey, we certainly want to be

pointed in the right direction.

It is not a question of morality. It is just how things work.

Sat Nam,

Gururattan Kaur

This is a subject that rarely gets talked about so I put it out to share with

the heart list as well. The

way this is described is powerful and perhaps a very simple explanation of why

it is not something to

practice. Gloria

Thanks Rattana & Gloria for the replies.

I anticipated the response to the substances issue and have taken your

opinions to heart, but I was actually hoping more for a response to the

pranayama question.

I am of the opinion that anything outside ones own consciousness (or rather

perceived as outside) cannot 'cause' enlightenment, however there are many

paths and many tools to help one reach that goal. I don't want to press the

issue, as I understand the main orientation of the list, but these links may

be of interest to some.

Hi All,

I've been following this thread and I have to say I am amazed at the tolerance

for use of drugs in

conjunction with the practice of yoga being posted.

IMHO, if someone wants or needs drugs and does no harm in acquiring or using

them; and, does not

contribute in any way to anyone else's doing harm, then that's OK for them (

that's a pretty tall order

considering all the travails drugs must go through to get to your friendly

dealer next store-- something

that needs to be considered ).

My understanding of the practice of yoga is very simplistic: learning mental

discipline and opening up

your body's energy path ways by purifying your body.

Every yogic practice I can think of can be classified in one or both of these

macro-catagories. We need

these 2 cornerstones of practice to progress to anything beyond where we are

now.

How anybody can attribute an increase in either of these 2 necessities to the

use of drugs is beyond me.

You can say that drug use may facilitate the same feelings, ideas, emotions,

etc. as yoga does and I can't

say you are wrong; but I can say that their use is about as far removed from the

practice of yoga as you

can get.

Yoga is about achieving union on your own. You can walk to where you direct

your feet or buy you can buy a

ticket and fly to a destination of the pilot's choosing. Perhaps it will be the

same place; but, even if it

is you will not be the same person who is there for the different journeys will

change you differently.

Regards,

Gary

Hi,

>From what i can remember of the original post you

mentioned you were quite young.

What i would really give consideration to is

if you start off by doing things this way,

it may be harder to do them unaided,

you may be creating problems for yourself

which could be avoided by having faith in your own unassisted abilities in

the first place....

Have faith in you....

Lots of love Natalie

Hi All,

As you can tell, I am not in favor of drug use; but , there is so much good

stuff on this list that I can

not believe you would let a momentary thread disillusion you so much.

If you chose to leave the wheat because of the chaff, you may not have enough

to eat.

Peace,

Gary

Sat nam

This is an interesting discussion. I knew people who would smoke marijuana

then go to KY class.

I always thot that was strange, cause yoga makes me 'high' but in a

different way than drugs, if I did drugs (which Iused to) I wouldn't feel

like doing yoga, cause drugs made me feel lazy.

Yoga makes me feel high but energized not drugged high.

I think both drugs and yoga -at least for me- are a way of striving to

evade the chatter, chatter of the mind, and the circumstances of my life

that I don't like.

But I agree with Gururattan Kaur and Yogi Bhajan - yoga works better than

drugs

[and its cheaper :)]

So change the Subject :)

How about Sadhana??

Do you have a daily discipline of doing your Yoga Practice? Have you been

doing it long? How has it changed your life or lifestyle?

Oh darn,

I forgot to include in the other post this little snippet of information.

Regarding the quote, "I've been following this thread and I have to say I am

amazed at the tolerance for use of drugs in

conjunction with the practice of yoga being posted."

It is to the credit of this group that there has been this tolerance

forwarded. I would even go one step further and echo the voice of

Vivekanada and say, "not merely tolerance, but acceptance". For tolerance

only says that you are able to be in the room with someone (or chat room, or

onelist) but still harbor ill intentions or ill feelings toward a person.

But, true acceptance is one of genuine love for a person of differing

opinions or ideas.

Bravo, to this group, you are truely a break in the wall of ingnorance of

the common world. One in which love shows its face in the midst of

incredible odds.

Smile and know you are God,

Adam

Hi to All

I think that this thread has been exhausted. There seem to be three opinions

here - those for, those against, and those who are just fed up reading about

it! To reiterate the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, as expressed here by

Gururattan several days ago, if you do Kundalini yoga then don't do drugs.

KY

opens our energy so powerfully that any drugs can be harmful. Yogi Bhajan

has given us KY so we can get high naturally. It

does take longer but it lasts longer too. And there are no downers.

I don't want to see any more postings on this subject.

(Thank you for your comment, Gary - I think that most of our rs

would agree).

Sat Nam!
