Guest guest
Tharu folklore of Nepal on verge of extinction RSS CHITWAN, Apr. 7: Artists have been fleeing to India as the historical and ancient folk dances linked with the Tharu history, culture and folklore of the indigenous community, have been fast disappearing. The dances of the 17th and 18th century Rani Saranga, Rasadhari, Tamungara, Reguni, Ramjhumari, Medari, and Jhumara have now been extinct, said Uttam Kumar Chaudhari of Shishai of Dibyanagar-4. They are being extinct after CDs, CD players and CD films came into vogue, with the introduction of the western civilisation. Only few dance companies are now working out of the more than 100 companies and the rest are now fleeing, said the locals. The state has not been able to preserve it, said Central Observer of the Tharu Kalyankari Sabha Chudamani Chaudhari. http://www.gorkhapatra.org.np/pageloader.php? file=2006/04/08/topstories/main12
