Guest guest Posted March 18, 2006 Report Share Posted March 18, 2006 Somayagam from March 29 at Kaimukku Mana Saturday March 18 2006 12:52 IST THIRUVANATHAPURAM: A 6-day Somayagam (agnistomam) will be conducted at the Mattathurkunnu Kaimukku Mana in Thrissur district from March 29. Yajurveda expert, astrologer and vaidikan Kaimukku Raman Adithiripad will be the Somayagam yajamanan. His wife Aryadevi will be the Pathanady. Kaimukku Raman Adithirippad has said that all yagas help to preserve the flora and fauna by energising them, without causing any imbalance in the environment. The sun is the main source of energy and fire or agni is considered as a representation of the solar energy. Any offering to fire as god is actually an offering to the sun. The sacrifices either destroy the undesirable elements or rejuvenate the desirable powers through the transfer of positive energy. So the ultimate aim of all these vedic rituals is the well-being and spiritual uplift of the entire mankind. The maximum purification is done in the atmosphere by the positive energy generated by the holy fire of the yagam, Raman Adithirappad said. Altogether 17 rithwiks will perform the yaga. The four main rithwiks are called Adhwaryu, Hothan, Udgathavu and Brahman in the yaga parlance. The other rithwiks help them. There will be a Sadasyan for overall supervision. Thirty-four experts in Rigveda, Yajurveda and Samaveda have been selected to perform the duties of the rithwiks. As per traditional norms, Vaidyamadom Nampoothiry will be the Salavaidyan for this yagam. The yagasala is being constructed in the traditional way. The utils are being made with clay and wood in the stipulated shapes and sizes. The Kaimukku Mana stands on the bank of the river Nandini in the Kodakara-Mattathoorkunnu region which falls within the Irinjalakuda gramam. The Kaimukku Mana is one of the four vaidik families, which keep the holy yaga fire ever burning.
