Guest guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Share Posted March 8, 2006 Indian Muslim organizations condemn Varanasi blasts The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind (JUIH) condemned the twin bomb blasts in Varanasi and offered condolences to the families of the innocent killed in twin blasts Tuesday evening. Appealing to the people to exercise restraint, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind (JUIH) General Secretary Mahmood A Madani asserted that the blasts were shameful acts and must be condemned in one voice by the whole nation. In a release in New Delhi, he added that any violence especially in a place of worship was most condemnable. Madani urged the law enforcement agencies to deploy every possible means to provide immediate relief and security to the affected people. Meanwhile, the IUML asked the Government to strengthen security and bring the culprits to book. G M Banatwala, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) President, said in a statement in Mumbai that the "political designs" behind these blasts and other recent incidents of violence in Uttar Pradesh "must be defeated." Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi condemned the explosions in Varanasi and appealed to the people to maintain calm in "these testing times". Meanwhile authorities stepped up security in the district and adjoining areas in Varanasi and other states.
