Kanchi Shankaracharya to be in Mumbai on Feb 12

The 69th Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti peeth, Swami Jayendra

Saraswathi will arrive in here on February 12 to attend

the 'Peetharohana Shatabdi Mahotsav of his guru late Swami

Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi.

Swami Chandrasekharendra's 100th year of taking 'sanyasa' and

becoming the head of Kanchi Kamkoti peeth begins on February 13.

 

He had attained 'siddhi' (sainthood) in 1994 at the age of 100 years

after taking 'sanyasa' at the age of 13 and was the head of the

Kanchi 'muth' for a record period of 87 years.

 

Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Peetharohana Shatabdi Mahotsav trust has

organised various functions as a part of the eleven-day celebrations.

 

As many as 250 vedic scholars from all over the country are

participating in the 'yagna' after which the newly constructed Sri

Kamakshi Devi temple at Nerul in Navi Mumbai, which is a replica of

the Kamakshi temple at Kanchi, will be inaugurated.
