Guest guest
Another Vedic school in Rajasthan soon Virat Nagar Rajasthan | February 13, 2006 6:40:10 PM IST Virat Nagar, the ancient capital of Matsya Desh that finds mention in the Mahabharata, will soon have a Vedic Vidyapeeth (school) to teach the Vedas free of cost. The foundation stone of the school was laid by state education minister Ghyanshayam Tiwari during the three-day religious festival from February 10-12 in this town, located some 85 Km from Jaipur. The school will be run by the Panchkhand Peeth temple trust, which also oversees the Hanuman temple here and organises the festival every year. The school will encourage young boys to undertake the study of the four vedas. The students will be provided free accommodation and food. On passing out, they will be called Vedic graduates. Emphasising the need for Vedic education in this new age, Acharya Dharmendra Maharaj, who presently runs the Panchkhand Peeth, said, "Our age-old Vedas are scientific. You cannot say studying them is in any way propagating religion or fanning fundamentalism. There is need for enlightenment in this fast-paced age where young people feel proud of aping Western culture, try speaking a twisted English with an accent. There is just no connection with our ancient culture and traditions that have stood the test of time." He added, "this Vedic education is all the more relevant for peaceful coexistence in this tumultuous age." The new vedic school, although not state- funded, will be an addition to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) Keshav Vidyapeeth Viswavidhayalaya (KVV), located in Jamdoli in Jaipur's outskirts. The KVV is set to become functional from the next academic session, which will be dedicated to the nation by Sarsanghchalak K S Sudharshan on February 18. The state's Bharatiya Janata Party government has already issued a letter of intent to the university. According to the RSS, it was an attempt to promote nationalism through a "novel approach". An RSS note circulated to promote its new venture says the university would focus on the study of the Indian value system and projecti it as an ideal alternative to modern lifestyle. The KVV would also offer courses in Yoga sadhana, Ayurveda and Indian culture.
