Guest guest
Book simplifies Vedic philosophy - By Mohammed Anas New Delhi : A panel discussion on the book The Wisdom of Vasistha, authored by Raghunandan was held at the India International Centre recently. Former Indian ambassador to the UK Dr L.M. Singhvi, said, "The Yoga Vasistha is for those who aspire to plunge into the realm of spirituality. Though the book falls short in terms of language but its content will carry it world-wide and spread the knowledge about ancient Vedic teachings." The discussion was organised by the L.N.J. Bhilwara Group and the panelists included Mr A.N.D. Haksar, retired IFS officer and Prof. Vibha Chaturvedi, head of religion and philosophy, Delhi University. Mr Haksar emphasised that both philosophy and literature are two sides of the same coin and the book depicts Indian philosophy the same way. "The book is a collection of essays on Yoga and Vedic knowledge that has been narrated in a simple language interspersed with interesting fables. The fact that we have numerous books on Gita in English and only two books on Yoga Vasistha makes the book all the more relevant," said Mr Haksar. Mr Haksar has authored a book on ancient Indian literature titled Glimpses of Sanskrit Literature. However, Prof. Vibha Chaturvedi disagreed with the author on the point of scientific interpretation of monastic philosophy. But she still found the book to be worth reading for its simple manifestation of Vedantic philosophy. She said, "For those who seek salvation, scientific reasons make little sense. But the book has presented Vedic philosophy in a manner that it makes an interesting reading even for those don't believe in it." http://www.asianage.com/main.asp? layout=2&cat1=92&cat2=215&newsid=202438&RF=DefaultMain
