Guest guest
Police record case against Karunanidhi for insulting Hindus Chennai | January 07, 2006 10:37:35 PM IST The city police today registered a case against DMK president M Karunanidhi alleging that he had insulted Hindus by likening them to thieves during a rally in Chennai over three years. The case under Sec 295A (Hurting religious sentiments) and 298 (Insulting by Speech) of the IPC was registered by the Mambalam police following a direction from the Madras High Court on a public interest litigation (PIL). In his PIL, Vedic Science Research Centre at suburban Valasaravakkam, director B R Gauthaman claimed that the Mambalam police station refused to register his complaint in October 2002 seeking action against Mr Karunanidhi for hurting the sentiments of the Hindus. Participating in a public rally to condemn Chief Minister Ms Jayalalithaa for banning religious conversions, the DMK Chief had likened Hindus to thieves, Mr Gauthaman alleged. The Mambalam police station would not take his complaint on the ground that a similar complaint was already pending against Mr Karunanidhi in the Egmore station. Following this, he was approaching the court now, seeking a direction from the police to initiate criminal action against the DMK leader, the petitioner said. This is the second case to be filed against Mr Karunanidhi, as the State Crime Branch CID on Thursday registered a criminal case against him in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of the Amaravathi Bridge in Karur. http://news.webindia123.com/news/showdetails.asp?id=213123&n_date=20060107&cat=I\ ndia
