Guest guest Posted December 23, 2005 Report Share Posted December 23, 2005 Livestock can boost our rural economy: Governor Barnala 'The origin of veterinary science dates back to the Vedic age and attained its peak under the golden reign of Ashoka and is also vividly described in Sangam literature,' Surjit Singh Barnala, State Governor, has said. He was speaking at the inauguration of the workshop on 'Advances In Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Services in Super Speciality Areas' held at the Madras Veterinary College yesterday. The workshop will act as a platform for veterinary scientists, progressive farmers, clientele and pet owners to discuss the scope, aspirations and expectations of the beneficiaries in the context of substantial progress made in the field of veterinary science. The Governor commended the contribution of the college to veterinary science and animal welfare, 'This college which was started in year 1903 is a pioneer institution in the nation and has been doing yeoman service for the past several years'. He also outlined the significant role of livestock in strengthening and boosting the rural economy. The workshop also included a pet show.
