of holy cave shrine. About 43 meter in length, 6 feet high and 1.5

meter in width, the alternate passage is scheduled to be completed before Maha

Shivratri on which a traditional Shiv Khori mela is observed for past several

years. The project is being executed by the Sanchatey Company under KONKAN

Railway. MLA Reasi, Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma was also present on

the occasion. Among others, Executive Director, Projects, KONKAN

Railways, Mr. Vinod

Kumar, SDM Reasi, Mr. A.K. Sahu, prominent citizens and representatives of

religious and social organizations were present on the occasion.

Keeping in view the rush to the cave shrine, the Shiv Khori Shrine Board has

been enduring to provide maximum possible facilities to the visiting pilgrims.

The Shrine is perceived to emerge as yet another pilgrim tourism destination

which likely to give a big boost to the local economy. Situated in

picturesque village Ranso of tehsil Reasi in district Udhampur, the Cave Shrine

of Shiv Khori is 130 kilometers from Jammu via Katra and 120 Kilometers from

Udhampur town. The revered Shrine

believed to be the self emanating from the Lord Shiva in the form of Aap Shambu

is thronged by a large number of devotees professing faith in Shiva. The cave

shrine is witnessing huge influx of devotees since taking over by the Shiv

Khori Shrine Board. The Chairman of the Board, Mr. Parmar informed

that with the completion of alternate passage at Shiv Khori, the inflow of

devotees would substantially increase and may touch over 5 lac next year

against nearly three lacs at present. The Shiv Khori Shrine Board

is also contemplating to attract maximum Mata Vaishnodevi devotees by creating

required facilities of boarding and

lodging at the base camp, Ransoo. The Chairman said adding that other ongoing

works under the Board include Shrine Board Guest House, construction of bathing

ghats at Dood Ganga, Shiv Khori and massive plantation of traditional and

medicinal plants on entire 3 kms route from base camp to Shrine site. He said

that sincere efforts would be made by the Board to develop this holy cave
