Note: This is a direct attack on the National Pride of Nepal. Anything

that instills National Pride is seen as a threat. What more proof is

needed that Internationalist/UN groups are behind the Maoist Terrorists?

Manandhar manhandled by street protesters

"I feel that foreign meddling has grown in Nepal, Manandhar said in a

disappointed tone."

By Our Correspondent

KATHMANDU, Dec. 13: Three times SAFF gold medalist and former Olympian

marathoner Baikuntha Manandhar is deeply grieved by the shameful

incident recently during which the so-called street protesters

manhandled him and tore the national flag he was carrying.

The ignominious incident took place on Dec 2, the day of Their

Majesties the King and Queens return home from abroad. Manandhar and

another former marathoner Ratna Tuladhar along with other athletes

were waiting patiently to welcome Their Majesties at Baneswore.

Manandhar who holds the SAFF record in marathon for the last 18 years

said that the street protesters affiliated to one of the agitating

political parties manhandled him after passing derogatory remarks like

mercenaries and also tearing off the flag, the national pride.

I could have borne the verbal and physical abuse on me but how could

I be quiet when somebody shows utter disrespect to the national pride,

the flag, he said. He said that he retorted politely asking them how

could they claim to be democrats when they dont fall behind from

tearing the national flag, the center of allegiance of all the

Nepalese. A genuine patriot never shows disrespect to his country or

the flag.

He said that he had always shown respect towards the flag, be it

during his days in the international or national track. I always feel

the pride carrying our national flag. He said that it is very

disappointing and ironical to realise that the so-called democrats are

angered to see a national player holding the flag. The incident has

aroused doubt in me whether they are patriots or not.

According to Manandhar, the political cadres did not even spare some

of the students who were carrying the flag awaiting Their Majesties

arrival. He said that the definition of patriotism never changes and

it is wrong to shake ones faith by means of force.

He even tried to pacify the hooligans by saying that a national player

has the rights to carry the flag but no one was willing to listen to

him and resorted to physical assault instead.

After having the bitter experience, Manandhar feels that the agitating

parties are clamoring not to empower the people but to rise to power

by hook or crook. I feel that foreign meddling has grown in Nepal,

Manandhar said in a disappointed tone. He also showed his contempt

towards the alliance between the seven parties and the Maoists.
