Important government announcement this week: Nepal's Home Minister

Nepal Gov: Important announcement this week

Khatmandu, 13 December, (Asiantribune.com): Nepal's Minsister for

Home Affairs Kamal Thapa, recently inducted by King Gyanendra in the

council of minister, said Monday that the government is making an

important announcement this week.

Thapa said so to journalists after meeting visiting Indian Foreign

Secretary Shyam Sharan in Kathmandu Monday. He did not elaborate on

what the announcement would be.

Thapa also did not comment on what he discussed with Sharan. He said

that he would organize a press conference after the government's

announcement.

Meanwhile, Sharan, who arrived in Kathmandu Sunday on a three-day

visit, also held separate meetings with vice chairmen of Nepal's

council of ministers, Tulsi Giri and Kirti Nidhi Bista today.

Sharan refused to comment on the contents of his talks during the

meets, stating that it was just a routine visit. When asked what he

has to say on New Delhi being the venue of the recent signing of the

12-point pact between the seven-party alliance and the Maoists, he

said, "Do you think such a thing happened." He didn't elaborate

though.

The royalist camp in Nepal has criticized India for playing a "dual

role" when it comes to Nepal's Maoists. Royalists here have said that

while India has arrested a few senior leaders of Nepal's Maoists

outfit, particularly Kiran Vaidhya and C P Gajural as pubic

posturing, it has also allowed the Maoists to operate from their

land, a fact proven by the recent pact signed by the seven parties

and the Nepal's Maoists, in New Delhi.

Sharan is scheduled to meet King Gyanendra Tuesday morning. Saran is

also meeting Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala and

General Secretary of Communist Party of Nepal, Madhav Kumar Nepal,

later Tuesday.
