You have asked " Is the derived hypothesis about the floods of circa 2500 to 2700 BCE verifiable by geological studies, say, related to the formation of the Rann of Kutch and the Gulf of Khambat?" As far as I know, no one has seriously undertaken such a study in India. But Valdiya in his book on 'Saraswati' refers to raised platforms for constructing houses in Harappan towns, as a measure against 'floods'. Further I quote from the book Prehistoric & historic archaeology of Gujarat, by HD Sankalia (pages 41 and 42 on Lothal). "...originally there was no dock. This was built we are told, after a devastating flood in c 2350 BC. This was a new township with an excellent dock-yard.....Even the symbol of Lothal's prosperity and the fire-altars...were completely engulfed and destroyed in c 1900 BC. If this dating is correct, and if elsewhere in Sind, Kutch, Panjab and Mekran coast the Harappan settlements were destroyed by a flood, then such a phenomenon must be regarded as a deluge." As you know, both Shatapatha Br. and MBh refer to the first flood of Manu and and Matsya. MBh says 'this happened in an earlier epoch' meaning 'much before MBh's own time'. My perception is 'Sh.Br precedes MBh by a few centuries' RN Iyengar --- End forwarded message ---
