More than 2,000 devotees of Lord Vishnu offered prayers while five Vedic reciters chanted hymns in praise of the presiding deity. With icy conditions prevailing over the snowy peaks surrounding the shrine, the chief priest of Badrinath shrine closed the doors, temple sources said here. The shrine will reopen in April-May next year. This season, more than seven lakh pilgrims visited the shrine which is one of the four revered pilgrimage sites in the country. Another important pilgrimage site in the central Himalayan region, Kedarnath, the shrine devoted to Lord Shiva, has already been closed for winter.
