Guest guest
PEAK PROFILE with Dhaval Bhathia Young author simplifies number crunching in new book Express Features Service Mumbai, November 16: AT 22, Dhaval Bhathia does the expected. His off-spin smashes wickets on scorching weekend afternoons, he regularly queues up to catch Bollywood flicks and prefers his music soft. But for one little difference. Bhathia is an author of two books. His first, written when he was 19 and surprisingly a self-help book, How To Top Exams and Enjoy Studies, is being translated into Spanish. The latest, Vedic Mathematics Made Easy, had the `sold out' credit in its first week of release in August and is now, by demand, in its ninth impression. Vedic Math...is for students preparing for competitive exams. The book's aim is to prevent students from the head scratching at exam halls when faced with mathematical dilemmas, says Bhathia. The book written in 15 days flat is compiled in such a way that tips for speedy calculation are accessible on every page. ``I want to bring a shift in the way students approach mathematics,'' says Bhathia, ``I have practised these techniques, borrowed from Vedic science and introduced a few of my own inventions." Bhathia has also included tips gained from interactions with people, including an improvised addition technique resulting from a chat with a nine-year-old and a new method for cross multiplication that he actually dreamt up. ``But I would not advise this book to a primary school student. Parents should take their children through the traditional methods to appreciate this medium,'' he says. http://cities.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=157545
