One of America's earliest color films, it was preserved in the archives of the Kodak Eastman Corporation. On April 18, 1926, Martha Graham's company, featuring students from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, debuted in New York City. The program was heavily derived from the Denishawn repertory, featuring Graham in exotic solos and her students in a ballet ballad called "The Flute Of Krishna." A review from The Dance, described Graham as "clad in a heavy gold kimona, making patterns with her body against a screen of brilliant lacquer...Martha Graham presents a series of pictures that fire the imagination and make a hundred stories for every gesture. Shall we say her dances are motion pictures for the sophisticated. http://www.pitt.edu/~gillis/dance/martha.html Some early photographs of Martha Graham, during her tenure with the Denishawn Dance Company, show her dressed in Indian costumes performing "Three Poems of the East" and "Three Gopi Maidens". Later on, when Graham charted her own path, she created choreography of works like "Flute of Krishna". http://www.narthaki.com/info/dukjun01.html (Use Time Zone converter link below to see the braodcast time in your local area.) http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO VIEW WEBCAST Will require a broadband internet connection to view the real time stream and Microsoft® Windows Media Player 9 Series ® NOTE:THIS BROADCAST IS AIRING ON SCAN ] Seattle Community Access Network.
