About 108, the auspicious

About the use of the mala when honoring Lord Ganesh:

--I recently have read in a book (I alas don't remember its title) that besides

considering

the 108 beads mala as auspicious, another reason can sometimes be heard. 108

could be

interpreted as the major 100 number, the remaining 8 beads being there by way of

precaution, because the long recitation of the 100 mantras may sometimes be

unvoluntarily incomplete. I wonder if someone else has perhaps heard such an

interpretation of the 108 mala.
