Namaste Barbara,

Pls go to this group for Classical Tantrism :

Tantrism/?yguid=45004342

You will find full texts on MahaNirvana Tantra kindly posted by Sri

Neilji in the old messages if you do a search on that group. It is

the real thing, translated by Arthur Avalon (Sir John Woodroffe)

while serving in Calcutta way back before we were born.

Much love

Simone

Namaste all,

A quick response regarding the Mahanirvana Tantra. Firstly, I'm not over

familiar with this text, but I do know that the worship of Lord Ganesh and

meditation upon him is mentioned in several places through it. It reads at one

point:

Meditating on Ganesha once again, He should be worshipped with offerings of the

five elements. On each of His four sides should the excellent Kaulika worship

Ganesha, Gana-nayaka, Gana-natha, Gana-krida, Eka-danta, Rakta-tunda,

Lambodara, Gajanana, Mahodara, Vikata, Dhumrabha, and Vighna-nashana.

It says in Avalon's/Woodroffe's introduction that this 'Tantra has been assigned

to the group of sixty-four known as those of the Rathakranta'. Rathakranta is

seemingly a northern region, but where exactly I couldn't say with confidence.

The 64 I take it must mean the 64 Bhairava Shastras. I believe there are 92

Agamas (the defining character of an Agama is that Parvati/Devi asks Shiva

questions, whereas this is reversed in the Nigamas) - the 64 Bhairava Shastras

(which are non-dualistic), the 18 Rudra Shastras (which are non-dualistic cum

dualistic), and 10 Shiva Shastras (which are dualistic).

Whereas Rudraksha I believe is mentioned a couple of times. From what I have

been told Rudraksha tend to be mentioned more in the Rudra and Shiva Shastras.

Hope this helps : )

Om Shanti

Neil

Namaste,

I haven't come to any references to Rudraksha yet, but I did notice a reference

to coral or other malas, but Rudraksha at that place was not mentioned

specifically. I did notice that the Mahanirvana Tantra said that worshippers of

Ganesh could be initiated, and, also, there is a reference to the first viewing

of the Sun by a child. Then the father first should worship Ganesh; however, it

seems to me, that this is not given as a daily occurrence. Perhaps I am wrong

here, as I am not knowledgeable about the text.
