In Shingon Buddhism, Lord Ganesha is known as Shoden or Kangiten, and is pictured as two elephants (male and female) embracing. The female elephant is actually supposed to be an emenation of Kannon (Kwan Yin) the bodhisattva of compassion, and in embracing the male elephant is supposed to subdue his tendencies to throw obstacles in the worshipper's path. Supposedly worship of this deity is very esoteric within Shingon and is kept secret. This is my understanding of it anyway. Hope that this helped! Guest guest
i think u guys got Jimmy wrong in the sense that this group should be dedicated to the study and apprecition of a complex, beguilling and the same time, friendly and benevolent form of paratmman, Lord Ganesha.. Jim was not negatting the sakti, but just putting the spotlight back to our beloved and adorable, Pillaiyar... every single active form of deity has to be come in the the nirguna and saguna form --- usually the male deity (for example, Lord Krishna) represents the resevoir of energy, the potential energy, the fire.. whereelse the female deity (for example, Goddess radha) represents the ,manifestation of energy, the kinetic energy , the heat and light from the fire.. and that is also one of the reason why Goddess Saraswati never amounted greatly to have temples built in her honor simply because she and Lord Brahma are deemed incomplete.. Actually the "female" form of Lord ganapati is called Vigneswari and he/she is mostly worshipped in the southern states.. ciao tang , "Mark" <HANUMAN1960@C...> wrote: > > > > > There are also female Ganesh forms somewhere in the world (I think > > Japan or some place else. > > > > Len, can you recall those old messages where some members discussed > > the female aspects of Ganesha?) > > > > If anyone can remember the old messages or have info relevant to > the > > female aspects of Ganesha, please enlighten us, thank you. > > > > Ommmmmmmmm, > > A.G. > > > > > Namaste All! > > In Shingon Buddhism, Lord Ganesha is known as Shoden or Kangiten, and > is pictured as two elephants (male and female) embracing.
