Some Hindus believe that Lord Vishnu gave an <amsha>

or fragment of his incarnation as baby Krishna to

Parvati to raise as her child. It was this <amsha>

who got beheaded by Lord Shiva, and was given an

elephant's head, becoming Ganesha. Note that the

Calcutta-based artisans who make Ganges clay statues

for Sacred Source always portray Ganesha with Lord

Vishnu's weapons -- conch shell, discus, club, and

lotus.
