Not only did Ganesh best him without even trying, but Skanda wa so pissed after words he went off to live in a cave and live as hermit. To me Ganesh is like water and Skanda is like rock. The water may seem softer but it is always going to be more powerful than the rock. I guess the only reason I have any respect for him at all is because of his family and not because of his actions as an individual. If you can shed more light on the subject for me please do. Guest guest Posted January 15, 2005 Report Share Posted January 15, 2005 Namaste Henry & Jim, Shri Sai Charita is wonderful, as is Shirdi Sai Baba himself (not to be confused with the bogus and abusive Satya Sai Baba of modern times - the Indian guru with big afro hair - who I think Jim may be thinking of). Shirdi Sai Baba is simply divine, quite literally. He is one of the greatest sages of the last few hundred years. I don't really know of Shirdi Sai Baba being addressed as Ganesh, but I can understand why. When you read of his leelas it is clearly evident how he removes the obstacles for his devotees and blesses them continually. I would whole-heartedly recommend to anyone within the group to read about Shirdi Sai Baba and his words. I find it difficult to imagine anyone reading these not to find their faith and devotion to the divine increase. There are plenty of groups dedicated to Shirdi Sai Baba and it is worth reading some of their postings. Similar to Shirdi Sai Baba the avadut Bhagavan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri was also thought by some to be an incarnation of Lord Ganesh. Like Shirdi Sai Baba, Nityananda was also surrounded by miracles and poured forth blessings to his devotees, and continues to. : ) Again I would recommend his leelas and words. The famous verse from the Guru Gita is: Gururbrahma gururvisnur gururdevo mahesvarah, Gurureva parabrahma tasmai srigurave namah. The Guru is Brahma. The Guru is Vishnu. The Guru is Lord Shiva. I have heard of him doing everything from pulling Shiva lingams out of fires that where not visible to anyone else untill he retrieved them and also pulling leaves off trees and turning them into candy for children. He is either a really good magician or a true avatar of the devign. I cant say Ive never met him. As for him being Ganeshas Avatar I havnt heard that one. I think it depends on the followers . Im sure others have refered to him as the incarnation of Vishnu . There is a lot about hinduism I dont understand like why people will stick needles through there cheaks and other body parts for Taipusam to honor Skanda (Like he is the be all end all). To me Ganesh draws me we more than Skanda. To me Ganesh represents Wisdom, Power, compassion, Love and skanda represents Arogance ,ignorance, bitterness and war. My friend and teacher is both a devotee of Neem Karoli Baba, and Shirdi Sai Baba. He recently came from India and brought me the ashes from his Dhuni which is kept burning at Shridi to this day. But yes, there has been claims of less than desirable behaviour and also murder related charges if I recall correctly. If one was seeking a guru here is one that I personally wouldn't go near.
