Guest guest
Hello, I am wondering if Lord Ganesh has any special relationship to cats, does anyone here know? I have a heavily beaded toran and in the center is Lord Ganesh, while very prominantly displayed are also several very large cats (each with a hump on their back). Any significance? Thank you, - Michael
Guest guest
Namaste Michael, I'm not sure if Lord Ganesha has any affinity with cats but would like to think not as his vehicle is Mushika the mouse Had a weird experience with a Mane Ki Neko ceramic cat a long time ago when placing next to the murti of Lord Ganesha. This particular ceramic cat was a talisman for general improvements but during the year it was sitting on the altar with Lord Ganesha, things were not good After it was removed, kapow! life was a lot better. This is not to say other folks won't have positive experiences with Lord Ganesha and cats next to him. Everyone's karmas and rnanubandhanas differ. Hope other friends here would be able to enlighten us.. Guest guest
font-family:Arial">Namaste all, font-family:Arial"> font-family:Arial">I’ve don’t recall ever hearing of Lord Ganesh ever being associated with a cat. From what I can recall I’ve read/seen him associated with the mouse, the rat, the mongoose, the flamingo and of course the elephant. Any association that Ganesh could have with cats, would possibly be (and I’m just throwing out an idea here, nothing more) if Ganesh was associated with a deity whose vahana was a cat of some sort, eg Durga with a lion or tiger. However, in what I have seen and read Ganesh is typically associated with either Shiva and Parvati, and typically the only animal I have seen in these family paintings is Nandi, the white bull. Elsewhere Ganesh is sometimes seen next to Lakshmi and/or Saraswati. Saraswati is typically seen with a peacock or swan and Lakshmi (I think) is mostly associated with the elephant. Maybe somebody more knowledgeable than I (it wouldn’t be hard here! LOL) can give some elucidation and shed a little light on the topic. font-family:Arial"> 12.0pt;font-family:Arial">Om Shanti font-family:Arial">Neil font-family:Arial"> font-family:Arial"> margin-left:72.0pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1;tab-stops:list 72.0pt"> Symbol;mso-bidi-font-family:Symbol">· Namaha Simone , "Moon Bear" <moonbear15@c...> wrote: > Hello, > > I am wondering if Lord Ganesh has any special relationship to cats, does > anyone here know? Guest guest
There is a story about Ganesha when he was a child. The boy Ganesha was teasing a cat, pulling its tail, mussing its fur, and rolling it around in the dirt. When he came home, he was upset to find his beloved mother, Parvati, with her saree torn and dirty, her hair pulled and disshevelled, and her body in general dirty and beaten. "Who has done this to you?" the boy-God asked, outraged. And Parvati answered, "Do you remember the cat you teased this afternoon? I am <Prakriti>, the spirit of Nature, and when you abuse even the least of nature's creatures, you are abusing me." The tearfully repentant Ganesha bowed to his mother, and promised that he would never abuse any other creature again. And that's the only story I can recall that links cats and Ganesha. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sun, 14 Mar 2004 09:46:19 -0000 "Trikashaivism" <Trikashaivism writes: > Namaste all, > > I've don't recall ever hearing of Lord Ganesh ever being associated > with > a cat.
