Parad Poison?

Many years ago, I purchased from an Indian import company a small parad

bead, hung on a red cord. It came with instructions to wear it next to

the skin, and that by "homeopathic effects" it would heal me of several

illnesses. I wore it for several days and broke out in a nasty rash. I

didn't have the patience to wait to see if this was a "healing crisis"

that would eventually lead to improvement. I stopped wearing the bead.

Mercury poisoning is slow, and cumulative. "Alice in Wonderland's" Mad

Hatter was mad because hat makers used mercury to treat felt when making

hats. Over the years, they began suffering from memory loss and

dementia.

In these days, when health experts are concerned about too much mercury

in tuna fish (and suggesting that children limit their tuna intake), when

others suggest replacing one's mercury amalgam dental fillings with

substances less toxic, I would not myself suggest wearing parad, or

consuming items from a parad cup. And I know one importer who strongly

advised coating parad statues with some sort of lacquer or clear acrylic

paint.

You might want to talk to someone who claims they derived benefits from

wearing parad. (Personally, I think wearing rudraksha beads is a lot

safer.) But as in all things, your own mileage may vary.
